Summary/Abstract: The entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty marks an important step towards the constitutionalization of the European Economic and Social Model. Through granting a constitutional status to the values, principles and objectives of the EU, the Treaty shows EU’s explicit choice for a society based on the particular combination of market, state and society (Bărbulescu et al., 2011: 33), namely the social market economy. This paper aims to explain how constitutionalization of this model occurred up to the Lisbon Treaty and what has facilitated this process. The author has chosen to fundament her argumentation on the theoretical approach advocated by Frank Schimmelfennig (2003): “strategic action in a community environment”.
