Summary/Abstract: The article examines the evolution of the French political system from the libera- tion of Paris in 1944 to the establishment of the Fifth Republic in 1958, and its first years until 1962. It focuses on the key institutional and political changes that took place during the Provisional Government and the Fourth Republic, leading to a deep political crisis and the birth of a new political system under the leadership of Charles de Gaulle. Particular attention is paid to assessing the reasons for the failure of the Fourth Republic. The author discusses the constitutional processes that led to the introduction of the Fifth Republic in 1958, with a stronger presidency of Charles de Gaulle, and their impact on the stabilization of the French political system. Finally, the author assesses whether a semi-presidential system is the best solution for France
