Summary/Abstract: In this paper I intend to articulate a range of objections towards one of Robert Nozick’s main thesis from Anarchy, State, and Utopia (1974), namely that the minimal state comes out without anyone’s natural rights being violated. More precisely, I will hold that the dominant protective association discussed by Nozick, in becoming a minimal state, in fact overrides the natural rights of the non-members and of its members as well. For this, I plan to argue that the dominant association constraints independent persons to become its members and its actual members to remain that way, thereby violating the freedom of all people from that territory. Moreover, I will argue that the dominant association also violates everyone’s property rights.
