Summary/Abstract: This presents a series of aspects that reflect professional development, which constitutes a continuous training process in a given field, based on the assimilation of a system of theoretical and practical knowledge. These orientations are, respectively, professional development through the learning process and professional development through research or reflection. The aspects of professional development of the teaching staff are presented: and the new trends in teacher training are described, highlighting the constructivist teacher, who also needs knowledge from different fields, but also cognitive capacities, applicative skills, along with specific attitudes and aptitudes. Professional development for teachers is more than training or courses, because it is precisely it that is an agent of change in classroom practice. For the development of a high-quality teacher and teaching force, it is important to have a high-quality professional development program for teachers.
