Summary/Abstract: The author discusses a thesis of Alfred Söllner presented in his "Römische Rechtsgeschichte" (1980), saying that a Byzantine mosaic in San Vitale (Ravenna), dated between 540 and 547 p.C., shows Tribonian beside the Emperor Justinian I. If the mosaic figure on the mosaic really shows Tribonian a second question arises: whether the Codex in his hand is a gospel codex (Deichmann) or a Codex of the Corpus Iuris Civilis (Söllner).
