Summary/Abstract: Recognized the world over as a great conductor, Silvestri has distinguished himself in this position conducting major orchestras, conducting the most important masterpieces of world music. At the national level, he distinguished himself by conducting the Romanian premiere of George Enescu's OEdipe and as director of the Bucharest Philharmonic and the Romanian Opera. Silvestri's activity as pianist-choreographer at the Opera was also very fruitful, as was his career as a concert pianist, offering the public numerous large-scale recitals, with difficult and vast repertoires, with his famous improvisations on various themes or in the style of composers. Composer Constantin Silvestri's work is a realm still waiting to be discovered, his music a strange pendulum swinging between melancholy, sadness and dream, drama and effervescence. His compositional talent was recognized by great personalities of the time, such as George Enescu, Mihail Jora (his mentor), Cella Delavrancea.
