SOME NEW DATA ABOUT OSMAN-EF. ŠUGLI, SON OF AHMED, FROM VISOKO - A Contribution to the Study of Literature Written by Bosniaks in Oriental Languages

Summary/Abstract: The article presents some new biographical information about Osmaneffendi Šugli, son of Ahmed, from Visoko and his literary works in Oriental languages. Šugli was a qadiri shaykh, a madrasa teacher (mudarris), a Friday prayer speaker (khatib), a preacher, a poet, a writer, a chronicler, a calligrapher, a manuscript copyist and a translator. He was born in Visoko some time before 1645, but lived and worked in Sarajevo until his death on 15 Muharram 1127/21 January 1715. The present article is based on two manuscripts kept in Gazi Husrev Bey Library (R-1357 and R-586), an autograph kept in the Historical Archive of Sarajevo (R-456), a copy of Drnišlija's Zbornika bosanskih memorijala kept in the Oriental Institute in Sarajevo and the notes found in the fourth and fifth volumes of Kadić's chronicle (Tārīḫ-i Enverī).
