Summary/Abstract: The author comments about one hundred Bulgarian rhyming proverbs, which he himself has collected and which objectively correspond to the requirements of syllabotonic versification. Nearly half of them are in trochees and the rest in dactyls, amphibrachae, iambics, trocheeiambics and anapaests. Perhaps the requirements of syllabotonic versification were accidentally fulfilled in these proverbs, or else they were adaptations made by certain scholars who possessed poetic feeling and were already more or less familiar with syllabotonic verse from their associations with any foreign poetry (Russian, Ukrainian, etc.). When reading these extremely sparingly written two- and four-verse proverbs, one cannot but admire the depth of the thought and the experience of life placed in them, together with the perfection of their verse. The rhymes are absolutely naturally attained in the verses. It is often apparent that some of the rhymes prompted the maxims they contain.
