Summary/Abstract: Bulgaria's accession to the EU led to the extension of customs functions; the extension of control and the collection of customs duties, excise and other taxes on goods entering the Community; and to a more global mission – the facilitation of international trade, the protection of economic interests and the prevention of the importation of dangerous goods that threaten people’s health and life. This raises the need for effective control of external EU borders, based on better interaction and cooperation between customs authorities and market surveillance bodies, as well as a better awareness of their obligations to comply with product safety requirements. The measures for market surveillance regarding the prevention of marketing of goods not complying with safety requirements are surveyed in the article. The article examines the forms of interaction between customs authorities and market surveillance bodies during inspections to verify compliance with the safety of products imported from third-party countries.
