Summary/Abstract: Early 2003 marked the 12th anniversary of operation Desert Storm. With Ancient Mesopotamia being the birthplace of the duodecimal system, it might have been tempting to see this as the writing mane, tekel, fares on the wall for Saddam Hussein, Iraq’s dictator and self-proclaimed successor to Babylonian and Assyrian despots. However, numerology proved unnecessary: at the turn of the year listening to the tenor of international debate, especially at the United Nations, was enough.
