Summary/Abstract: Fostering students' self-dependence in a higher school it is possible to distinguish the following training guidelines: enhancement of cooperation between students and university teachers stimulating students' initiative as well as application of the project method involving the students into creative activities. In the process of changing of the university teacher's function from that of presenter of the essential information, through consultant, up to cooperation with students along with finding proper information, reflecting on its expediency, at the same time psychological assumptions for self-dependent work are developed. Students' functions are changing as well: from passive information receiver to initiative activity on his/her own. The degree of self-dependence is increasingly getting distinct. Application of the project method in studying the subjects related to the technological sphere is an important factor of fostering self-dependence. As cooperation with the university teacher is increasing, students get more involved in cognitive activities. Accomplishing individual projects they act more initiatively and select still unfamiliar activities. Most of the learners act self-dependently at the productive — reconstructive level, and self-dependent students' activities acquire a creative nature.
