Summary/Abstract: In this article pedagogical competency of university teachers is discussed, and peculiarities of the situation are reviewed in student and teacher points of view. Vicarious research shows that teachers' and students' opinions about the level of pedagogical competency obviously diverge. In students' point of view, about thirty per cent of teachers meet academic purposes of students. But more then seventy per cent of teachers think that they are very professional. The conclusion is that more methodical and practical knowledge is necessary to university teachers. The article analyses development of university teachers. The author figures out the lack of education system reformation: there is no system of university teachers' professional in-service training in Lithuania.
