THE EUROPEAN UNION DIRECTIVES CONCERNING THE MUNICIPAL WASTE ECONOMY

Summary/Abstract: Since Poland joined the European Union it has been a participant of the inte¬grated, common waste policy. To build the common law of municipal waste, general union documents as well as the harmonization of different national rules are used. The fundamen¬tal instruments of the Union law harmonization are directives which should help to remove differences between the EU’s and the member countries’ law. The paper presents directives concerning the EU municipal waste economy adopted between 1999 and 2008. The most important changes, which have already been or are to be made in the Polish municipal waste economy, as a result of the our membership in the EU, are discussed.
