Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to determine the extent of acceptance and use of various methods of payment in Polish e-commerce, as well as to identify the most important factors determining the use of these methods. The classification and characteristics of the payment methods used in e-commerce from the merchants perspective are presented. The analysis was based on the results of the survey which included 715 online shops operating on the Polish market. It was demonstrated that two payment methods, bank transfer and cash on delivery, still dominate in Poland. An analysis of the main reasons for accepting payment methods by the online shops with particular emphasis on the prevalence of the given method among customers and merchants was also conducted. The results indicate the existence of strong network effect on the market of online payment services, whose influence dominates over other determinants.
