TWO HOARDS OF COINS DISCOVERED AT ALBA IULIA DATING FROM THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES

Summary/Abstract: The hoards were discovered in June· 1987 by engeneering Ilie Cioroga, the manager of construction site, and Gh. Anghel, curator at M.N.U., in the city ofAlba Iulia, T. Vladimirescu street, on th~ prezent place of Com.pany Trading "Unirea", on the ocassion of its building. The .first hoard is compound of 299 silver coins and 3 silver medals', coins emissions of Emperor .Francisc Ioseph 1, included between 1821-1916. The second hoard is compound of 158 silver coins emissions, dated between 1848-1916. The two hoards had coins of Austrians Empires, silver piece of 1 florin, 1 kronen, 2, 5, kronens and silver piece of 1 forint, 1 kronen, 2, S kronens Hungarians emissions. . We have to mention that 1 florin =2 1cronens, ~rding to the LAW from 1892, wich introduced the kronen. By the analyse ofthe two hoards discovered at Alba Iulia we may point out some useful conciusions. The second hoard contains a big number ofpieces, emissions until1892, florins and forints =77 pieces and alI 77 pieces the kronens this was emited after 1892 until in 1916. The first hoard contains only 4 pieces - florins before of 1892 and odd money 294 are the kronens Austrian and Hungarians emissions and 1 piece of 20 kreutzers. As a final conciusion the second hoard is the tirst hoarding, but the first discovery was a Iater hoarding, the proprietes of~o holders succesive generations. They contirm once again a fact a1ready known ofali historica1 epocs: peoples in' ofmoments incertitude generated by the war, put their fortune in security place by burying it.
