Summary/Abstract: The countryside congregations discussed and adopted decisions of local importance concerning the administration, economical, social and cultural problems. In the conditions ofnational-political discrimination practised in Banat "and.Transylvania by Hungarian governments at the beginning of the 20th century, the Banat Romanians leaders orientated their activity in these official institutions of the counties toward a ferm and dignified support of the rights and demands for the majority ofpopulation fromBanat. AU the ordinary and extraordinary sessions of the Countryside Congregations condemned the abuses and injustice made by the Austro-Hungarian authorities against the Romanians, fmnly defendled their national Church and School, sustained the viUagers claim r~garding the arable ground problems, the pastures and the forests, revealing the multitude of inequities in the Banat society. On the whole, there were occasions of political education for the Romanians in Banat in order 10 distinsuish their aspiration toward national liberty and unity.
