Mechanisms of Creating Meaning in Dobri nemirov’s short novel “The Poor Luka”

Summary/Abstract: For a long period of time the phrase “unavowed classic” accompanies Nemirov’s name and the criticism indicates only several titles as his most valuable literary works – the novel “Brothers”, the short novel “The Poor Luka” and the volume of short stories “When i was Young”. This article regards skeptically these paradoxes in the history of literature and it is concentrated on the research of the creation of significations in “The Poor Luka”. it furthermore stresses on the importance of the short novel in the context of Nemirov’s works. Its object of study is the problem of the insignificant man’s fate in the light of his relations in the family (Luka – Militsa) and in the social environment (Luka – Apostol – Nickodim – the visitors of the local café). The relationships and the contradictions between them are also analyzed. Another aim of this article is an interpretation of an inner state and psychology of the main character that is tragically split between virtue and vice.
