Summary/Abstract: Over the past decade, there has been increasing evidence describing the brain basis underlying the capacity to exchange social signals, the biological foundations of linguistic capacities, and the development of communicative competence. Applying new conceptual and methodological approaches, this study advances to the next level research on patterns of communication and opportunities for learners to negotiate meaning, process and progress in language learning, and sociocultural differences in styles of learning.
