Summary/Abstract: The name of the Holy Martyr Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu of Wallachia (October 1688-March 1714) is closely linked not only a policy characterized by a long peaceful and stable reign but also a genuine cultural epoch marked by an architectural and artistic renaissance, known as the Brâncovenesc style ( or wallachian Renaissance, or Romanian Renaissance). The cultural activities of Prince Brâncoveanu exceeded the geopolitical limits of the Principality of Wallachia, having a great impact on the Orthodox Church in Transylvania. Now, in 2014, when 300 years passed since his martiric death, is a favourable moment to present his religious, artistic and cultural legacy. The present study aims to illustrate one of the most important dimensions of the personality of Prince Brâncoveanu, that of a “founder”. Therefore the propose of the following text is to put forward the historical foundation and evolution of the four Transylvanian churches Sâmbãta de Sus, Fãgãra., Ocna Sibiului and Poiana Mãrului that were built in the Wallachian Renaissance style.
