Summary/Abstract: This article deals with family policy in contemporary Russia. The author singles out the stages of formation and the main characteristics that determine the specificity of the policy towards the family. Pronatalist family policy is assessed as inefficient both in terms of increasing the birth rate in the long term and from the standpoint of adequacy of state support to the actual needs of families with children
