Spirituality of Lay People in Relation to God, Church and the World

Summary/Abstract: Straipsnyje mėginama apibrėžti pasauliečių dvasinio gyvenimo pobūdį, remiantis Bažnyčios dokumentais ir žymių teologų darbais. Svarbu pabrėžti, kad pasauliečių dvasinis gyvenimas yra specifinis, pagrįstas savitu jų santykiu su Bažnyčia, pasauliu ir Dievu. Pasauliečių vaidmuo Bažnyčios bendruomenėje lemia jų dalyvavimą trejopoje Kristaus – kaip Kunigo, Pranašo ir Karaliaus – misijoje. Tai ypač akivaizdu šeimoje – „mažoje namų Bažnytėlėje“. Savitas pasauliečių vaidmuo taip pat atsiskleidžia įvairiose bendrijose. Galiausiai straipsnyje atskleidžiama ypatinga tikinčiųjų pasauliečių vieta Bažnyčios bendruomenėje, glaudus jų ryšys su pasauliu ir su Dievu. Svarbu konstatuoti faktą, kad „buvimas pasaulyje“ nereiškia silpnėjančio esminio ryšio su Dievu, jis išreikštas visuotiniu pašaukimu šventumui. Šio pašaukimo kontekste svarbu parodyti, kaip evangeliniai patarimai realizuojami pasauliečių gyvenime. Visa tai leidžia teigti, kad šiuolaikinė dvasingumo teologija atskleidžia pasauliečiams dvasinio tobulėjimo galimybes. Skirtingai nuo vienuoliškojo gyvenimo formų, formuoja jų savitą kelią į šventumą, būnant pasaulyje. The Author of the article attempts to define the specific character of the lay people’s spirituality, on the basis of an analysis of the documents of the Church and the works of outstanding theologians. The most important here is to confirm the existence of the specific spirituality of lay people, which is based on their relationship to the Church, the world and God. The characteristic lay people’s place in the community of the Church as communion presumes their own participation in the threefold function of Christ Priest, Prophet and King. It is obvious, especially in the case of the family, as the ‘little Church of the home’. This specific role of the lay people is also realised in various associations. This is because lay people have to be the Church where the world is, an important factor in shaping their spirituality is their relationship to the world, expressed through developing culture and undertaking the mission of transforming creatures in the spirit of the Gospel. Finally, the author shows the specific place of the lay faithful in the community of the Church, their particular relationship to the world and their bond with God. In this context, it is important to state the fact that, ‘being in the world’ does not mean the weakening of the fundamental bond with God, which is expressed in the common calling to holiness. Within the limits of this calling it is important to emphasize the specific realisation of the evangelical counsels in the life of the lay people. All this shows that the modern theology of the spirituality presents to lay people the possibility of spiritual growth, which is not a copy of the monastic form, but constitutes their own way to holiness in the midst of the world.
