Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article are considerations for reforming the EU countries’ fiscal rules, both supranational and national, in the times of the global economic crisis. The paper attempts to assess the effectiveness of the process of evolution of quantitative fiscal rules from the point of view of their better adaptation to the new economic conditions. To achieve the objective formulated in the article, exhaustive research and critical analysis of literature studies and legal sources were conducted. The method of analysis was both descriptive and comparative, which resulted in a presentation of the process of evolution of fiscal rules, and a comparison of features of pre and post-crisis fiscal rules. It was indicated that the new generation fiscal rules were better suited to the economic crisis than the rules formulated and implemented in the period before the crisis.
