Summary/Abstract: The Pontic Readings in Varna have become a traditional historical forum which attracts a considerable number of historians, to the seashore every spring. This year's eleventh edition was dedicated to the subject of History: A Way of Use. This obviously attracted interest as applications exceeded expectations by far. The intentions of the organizers were to discuss matters related to both the eternal problem of manipulations with historical truth that serve political and propaganda objectives, and the more pragmatic dimensions of using historical heritage as "material" for contemporary mass culture and tourist industry. Reports concentrated mainly on two fields that could conditionally be designated as "historical" and "tourist", the former featuring a considerable variety of subjects in terms of both chronology and content, while the latter attracted mainly specialists in museum studies.
