Summary/Abstract: The exhibition of work by Mariusz Miko³ajek was organized by the City Museum in Wroc³aw, and the Contemporary Art Museum in Radom. It was entitled ‘Space Redeemed’. The artist is interested in religious themes, which he combines with contemporary subjects. His triptych entitled ‘Footprint’, pictures entitled ‘The Human Being’, ‘Waiting Room’ both refer to everyday life and to the Way of the Cross. His picture entitled ‘B Zone’ refers to the tragic events in Bieslan. The artist doesn’t like pathetic expression. His statements are brief and balanced. He likes simplicity. He tries to converse with Francis Bacon in such pictures as ‘Space Untamed’ (2004), ‘Borderline’ (2004), ‘Confession’ (2004), ‘Transgression’ (2005). Some pictures by Miko³ajek almost look like sculpture designs (‘The Untitled Picture’, 2004). The National Museum in Wroc³aw owns three pictures by Miko³¹jek which show scenes from Auschwitz (‘Swimming Poll’, ‘After Assigning Numbers’, ‘Grill’). Miko³¹jek’s work resembles art by Henri Michaux. His pictures is filled with empathy and tragic motifs.
