Defense systems of Lithuania and Belarus: comparative analysis

Summary/Abstract: The article compares the evolutions of the defense systems of Lithuania and Belarus after both countries became independent. While Lithuania switched to the concept of expeditionary forces, the Belarusian authorities still resort to the old concept of deterrence and complete territorial defense. Despite the Military Forces’ modernization, in the near future Belarus will inevitably face the need in changing its attitude towards security and Military Forces’ structure. Here, Lithuania’s experience will be quite helpful. У артыкуле параўноўваюцца эвалюцыі абарончых сістэмаў Літвы і Беларусі пасля атрымання незалежнасці абедвюма краінамі. У той час як Літва перайшла да канцэпцыі экспедыцыйных узброеных сілаў, беларускае кіраўніцтва засталося верным канцэпцыі стрымвання і ўсеабдымнай тэрытарыяльнай абароны. Нягледзячы на мадэрнізацыю ўзброеных сілаў, Беларусь у будучыні непазбежна сутыкнецца з праблемай змены падыходу да бяспекі і структуры ўзброеных сілаў. І досвед Літвы ў такім выпадку будзе мець вялікую карысць.
