Summary/Abstract: Agriculture is chronologically the first organized form of human activity and in all countries because of the delivered goods and fulfilled functions in the ecosystem it plays a special role. In all countries it undergoes a variety of changes. Polish accession to the European Union enforces a process of its agriculture adaptation to the EU conditions and the Common Agricultural Policy. The agricultural policy of the European Union has evolved from supporting the development of production to forming the desired level of consumption, the income of farmers and ecosystems. The paper analyzes the evolution of agricultural policy, both having an impact on our agriculture as well as the transformation of the agricultural background of other EU countries. The share of agriculture in the use of production factors, produced output and added value decreases but agriculture continues to grow its role in meeting basic human needs − nutrition and ecosystem. Poland in terms of area and population in the European Union takes the 6th place. The position of Polish agriculture is, however, higher in some products, it is even first. A drawback is that it is unstable. Polish economy has changed the place and role of agriculture. There is a declining share of agriculture in terms of: the total agricultural land area of the country, the labor force in agriculture, the value of gross fixed capital formation, investment, and production output, while there is an increasing share of agriculture in the national value-added and exports.
