The concept of sustainable development in social- economic practice of the European Union

Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to show the realization of the concept of sustainable develop- ment in the social-economic practice of the European Union. The work’s style was subordinated to the main aim of this article. The sustainable development has been shown, in each part of this article, as a current paradigm of contemporary economy. The sustainable development should be measured by adequate indicators. This is the base of diagnosis for taken actions in range (scope) of sustainable development in social-economic practice of the European Union and it is a starting point for further work. The article is based on a specialist literature, state documents and statistics. The article shows that the realization of the concept of sustainable development in social-economic dimension requires permanent insertion of aims of this strategy. The measurement of progress is very important and it consists of economic, social, ecological, political rating of effectiveness of actions for sustainable development. The regular measurements of sustainable development and their analysis give an identification for positive and negative tendencies. They create a substructure for better ways for the insertion of sustainable development.
