Serbs in Timişoara

Summary/Abstract: The Serbs are an autochthonous population in Timisoara. They had important cultural, economic, and political influence in the life of the town and the state. Since the end of the First World War – that is, since demarcation between Romania and Yugoslavia – the number of Serbs in Romanian Banat, and accordingly in Timisoara, has decreased continuously to the present day. This article, apart form providing a short historical introduction, briefly reviews the status of cultural and religious life of the Serbian community in contemporary Timisoara.
