Summary/Abstract: In order to gain equal rights with men, women have been struggling for two centuries and, to some extent, this struggle has led them to achieve their rights to elect and to be elected in the political arena. However, even if these efforts are accepted as a significant profit in the aspect of legal processes, it seems that women have not been able to change the structure of male dominant politics as these efforts have not resulted in a positive manner in practice. The aim of this article is to show the place of women in the political structure in Turkey. In order to do this, the article advances a definition of politics as well as short explanations about the perception of politics up to now. After briefly relating some aspects of the phenomenon of social gender, the article explores how women have been restricted by the dominant structure on political platforms.
