Summary/Abstract: Characteristics describing a vocational rehabilitation professional’s (mediation professional’s) professional competence, are lacking, therefore the aim of this paper is to identify professional competence characteristics of this specialist. Attempts have been made to analyze legal basis, which is important introducing this specialist and his / he professional competence. The system of vocational rehabilitation and work areas of this specialist have been described. Development and activities of a vocational rehabilitation professional (mediation professional) in Lithuania are discussed on the basis of projects. At the end a theoretical model of a vocational rehabilitation professional’s (mediation professional’s) professional competence which includes knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, motivation and emotions is proposed.
