Summary/Abstract: The author presents the basic principles of the concept of the Historical Dictionary of the Slovak Language (1991 –). This dictionary presents Slovak language from its pre-literary period – starting with the early works as it is preserved in manuscripts as well as in printed Slovak language works and in older Latin documents until the end of the 18th century. Professor V. Blanár was the leading intellectual force behind the creation of this dictionary.
