Summary/Abstract: The article “The direct presidential election as key element of semi-presidential political system of France” deals with origins, system and organization of direct presidential election in France. This system of vote was enforced by general Charles de Gaulle for the purpose of limitation of power of political parties and strengthen of authority of institution of head of state. The paper focuses on the influence of the method of vote to the constitutional and political system of France and to role of president and other institution. The article is divided into several parts. First part deals with constitutional situation during establishing of new system of vote and its main origins. Second part aims to present details of its organization and conditions of ballots. Final part focuses on position of president of the republic in the constitutional order and political system. French political parties were able to adapt on new method of vote and that’s why the French system and experiences could also serve as inspiration for new Czech political and upcoming constitutional situation.
