THE HUMAN PERSON IN THE PHILOSOPHY OF THOMAS AQUINAS

Author(s): Tomáš Machula
Subject(s): Christian Theology and Religion
Published by: Univerzita Palackého v Olomouci
Keywords: Aquinas; Person; Personality; Separated soul

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with Aquinas’ concept of the human person. It focuses specifically on three writings: the Commentary of Sentences, Disputed questions on power and the Summa theologiae. Aquinas’ writings on the person are extremely wide, although they particularly focus on questions of theology (Trinity, christology, angelic persons). The philosophical principles of the personalistic approaches to the human being as relational and dialogical are only outlined, but are not fully developed. Particular attention is paid to the question of the personality of the separated soul.
