Summary/Abstract: The biography of hierarch Teofi l, one of the most longevous Orthodox hierarchs, reveals to a greater extent than other similar life stories, the times of turmoil experienced by the Orthodox Church and the torment of a profound ecclesiastic conscience. Nevertheless, posterity was less than generous with Archbishop Teofi l; unjustly forgotten by his contemporaries, his life is not yet to be found in a monograph, and his detractors calumniated him as they evaluated his loyalty to Orthodoxy as an expression of treason in 1948
