Summary/Abstract: This text captures aspects of the evolution of the Romanian monasticism in Transylvania until the 17th century. After discussing the beginnings of Christianity in the Romanian territory—considering the fact that the evolution of monasticism implies the existence of Christianity—the author brings into focus the beginnings of monasticism in Transylvania in the 4th-11th centuries and the evolution of monachal life in the 12th-17th centuries. An important number of monasteries in Transylvania ceased to exist in the 18th century, when the brutal intervention of the Austrian general Bukow occurred
