Summary/Abstract: This paper is an attempt to analyse the Romanian electoral system and the elections during the communist regime, through a comparative approach, focusing on the existing legal settlement (also declared as democratic), and on the real, concrete ways, in which the elections of that time got on their way, being just a simulation of what we normally call “elections” in a democratic system. When analyzing the stipulations of 1946, 1952 and 1974 electoral laws we discover a series of extremely important elements in order to a better understanding of the electoral process during that period; these stipulations refer not only to the people who had the right to elect and to be elected, but also to the electoral colleges and the number of the deputies and local counselors who were elected in every electoral college.
