Summary/Abstract: The tree is one of the universal symbols of the spiritual culture of man. It is a symbol of the central axis joining heaven and earth; the man and his path to spiritual heights, cycle of life, death, rebirth, etc. The oak is considered a sacred tree. The paper makes an analysis of the oak in terms of linguistic culturology, i.e., the tree is considered as a symbol of health, strength, hardness, wisdom and greatness. The linguistic and mythological image of the oak associated with the folk beliefs and customs of the Bulgarians is also analyzed. Comparisons are made with other peoples and cultures.
