Summary/Abstract: The initiative to establish an atom-free zone on the territory of Poland, the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic was presented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Adam Rapacki on 2 October 1957. On the same day, also in New York, the Czechoslovak Minister of Foreign Affairs, Václav David, announced his country’s readiness to join the project. But Polish-Soviet consultations on a non-nuclear zone had been held since as early as 1956, and the Polish MoFA began working on the concept back in late 1955.
