Summary/Abstract: The Cossacks of Ukraine took part in the Time of Trouble in Russian monarchy. One of the reasons for it was plunder and in my point of view there was another reason, too. The Polish gentry did not trust the Cossacks, they were afraid of threat of riot in the Ukrainian lands. I think the Cossack chieftains might have pursued their own aims. Future «tsar» could have made them some concessions if he won. There were three groups of the Cossacks who took part in the Time of Trouble: registered Cossacks, the Zaporozhian Cossacks and people who became the Cossacks during the Time of Trouble. Although the Cossacks were fighters for the Orthodox Church they treated their Russian brothers-in-faith very cruelly.
