Summary/Abstract: The paper is based on the life stories of three women from Plovdiv (Armenian, Russian and Bulgarian in origin) and deals with their personal presentations through sharing the common signs for the different groups they belong to. Personal name and origin are chosen as the criteria for interpretation. They are the beginning of every autobiography and are also marks of affiliation to cultural positions beyond the control of the individual, as well as the frames of his identities. The personal name is discussed as a constant form derived from the context of the naming practice and the situation in the family, and, at the same time, as a multitude of nominations, connected to explicit roles, places, and stages. On the other hand, the origin may be relevant to ethnicity, certain social and professional circles, but mainly to the parents and their personal attitudes. Through the dialogue and the confrontation with the significant others the person acquires identity, which is acceptable for them.
