Summary/Abstract: The description of "the consumer society" belongs to the catalogue of diagnosis of the modern world, in particular of the western civilization. It should be interpreted as a result of various social processes including globalization, spreading of the popular culture as well as the dechristianization. The article examines how the consumer society refers to the ecumenism.
