Summary/Abstract: Ionesco was always baffled by life. For him, life was a misfortune, but one that was necessary, since existence was the only mode of being he could conceive. Solitude and finitude were the two diseases that affected Ionesco’s spirit, and these diseases were catching, as all his universe was contaminated by them. In his almost absolute solitude, the inability to overcome the different aspects of irreducible limit made him experience an anxiety out of which he could never find a way. The finitude he envisaged had its roots in such things as: the transitoriness of life, the infinite nature of the interior universe that is to be explored, the vanity of human knowledge, the inability to establish complete communication not only with oneself, but also with the others.
