THE UNCERTAINTIES OF A BEGINNING: NATHALIE SARRAUTE’S ENFANCE

Summary/Abstract: Our analysis aims at showing how the incipit of Enfance is a challenge as far as the traditional rules of autobiography as a literary genre are concerned, as well as at showing how this kind of breaking the laws of this genre is always marked by a certain hesitation which one may find in the text by means of elements that we are trying to consider carefully. Notre analyse se propose de montrer comment l’incipit d’Enfance représente un défi par rapport aux lois de l’autobiographie, mais aussi comment cette manière de trangresser les lois de ce genre est toujours hésitante, marquée par l’incertitude, incertitude qui se retrouve au niveau du texte par des éléments particuliers que nous nous proposons de mettre en évidence.
