A Few Remarks About the Problem of Disciplining Children in the Context of Ongoing Debate on the Need to Change Legal Regulations in This Respect

Summary/Abstract: Public dispute over the ban on punishing children by their parents has been going on for some time already whereas some political parties are even working on relevant legislation changes to be introduced. However, it seems that neither this debate nor any modifications in law will eliminate “spanking a child” as a part of upbringing process. Believing in extraordinary legal force in this aspect seems naivety. Regulations that forbid this type of practices will become a defunct law, which is impossible to carry into execution. Polish legal system provides children protection in a proper way. However performance of this protection looks much worse. Furthermore, there should be more educational activity among parents to raise their awareness that bringing up a child by practising methods of physical punishment is not a right solution.
