The Refugee Question in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Summary/Abstract: The author deals with the question of refugees and internally displaced persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina. First, he outlines the problem and its range, then, describes the Croatian approach to the problem in comparison to that of Serbia. The article then focuses on the specifics of the case of Bosnia an Herzegovina – presenting it as a success story in terms of the number of returnees, as well as taking into account the factors that are preventing refugees from returning, such as unstable security environment (ethnic relations and mine fields), nationalistic political parties, and socio–economic problems. Finally, the article debates the prospects facing new returnees 10 years after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
