Summary/Abstract: This book faces us with the contributions of the rise and fall of communism to the social theorizing on social change and development and aims at reinvigorating the debates in sociological theory bearing in mind the postcommunist phenomenon. It questions the appropriateness of the theoretical frames of references to the new arrangements in economy, society and culture and it concerns itself with the usage of classical concepts to the new globalized social world. The general purpose is to provide a manual on sociological theories and their connection to postcommunism. Thus, it does not test the innovative ideas presented. However, it is highly worthy to reveal the pieces that refer to reflections on communism and postcommunism, since they offer starting points to further research on East Central Europe in a various number of disciplines in social sciences.
