Summary/Abstract: The article follows the conflict of two historical styles represented in novel Sedmikostelí. It is important how these cultures included in the works of architecture are perceived by individual characters of the novel. Seems to be evident that main characters are favoured by the territories of Gothic. Positive aspects like functionality, sensibility towards surrounding areas or spiritual dimension of the Gothic territories are emphasized here. On the contrary, up-to-date spaces are criticized for their insensitiveness, "pure functionality" or plainness. means that, similarly to other novels, author's style of writing results in the criticism of unwanted and emotionless. Compared to Vilém Mrštík who published his critical essays in the form of journalistic genre, Uurban uses attractive and readable genre of the Gothic Revival novel. This genre offers wide interpretative possibilites, powerful storyline and a range of intertextual references.
