Summary/Abstract: The article presents the concepts for the nature of the "open economy" category and the quantitative measures of the degree of economy openness. The openness of the Bulgarian economy is traced for the period 1991-2008, through the “export quota”, “import quota"," foreign trade quota" and "dependency ratio of foreign trade" indicators. The analysis of indicators dynamics, characterizing the degree of the Bulgarian economy openness, shows a presence of significant integration in the global economy. Bulgaria's economy has no significant impact on the world economy due to its small percentage in the world trade. The higher degree of the Bulgarian economy openness affects the sectoral, the departmental and its internal-departmental structure. The increase of degree of the Bulgarian economy openness is an important factor, stimulating the increase of production quality, the production efficiency and the national competitiveness.
