Globalization And The Welfare State

Summary/Abstract: Globalization has had a devastating effect on the welfare state concept that was established in many countries after the World War II. The welfare state functioning, especially during the previous decade, provoked the increase of costs, which directly endangered competitive capabilities of particular national economies. Evident problems of the welfare state required its reformation and, therefore, many developed countries are making intensive efforts toward it. Taking into consideration high standards imposed by globalization, possible directions of the welfare state reform are analyzed in this paper.
