Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the development of ancient Greek methods of noting numbers in their connection with the development of Greek scripture. This overview begins with a short introduction of the Minoan Pictographic Script to put its numerical notation in its correct context. Next I analyze the Linear A and Linear B scripts with special reference to their respective numerical notations. The last item on my list is an analysis of the development of the adopted for the purpose of expressing Greek language Semitic alphabet. In pursuing this issue I present the bearing of the invention of alphabetic writing on the development of two systems of Greek numerical notation: Attic and alphabetic notations.
